A Bit About Therapy
My name is Rachel Polack and I am an Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I graduated with my Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan majoring in Mental Health and Interpersonal Practice. My undergraduate studies took place at The University of Michigan where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology.
I take a person centered approach in which I gear therapy towards the needs of the client and family. I use a toolbox of creative techniques to build our relationship and help my clients reach their short term and long term goals. My approach is straight forward, engaged and collaborative.
I offer both in person and telehealth clinical therapy services for couples, adults and teenagers. I welcome all ethnicities, races, religious backgrounds, genders and cultures to my practice. My office is located at 4049 First Street in Livermore, CA.
My Background
I completed my undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). My major in undergrad was psychology , and my graduate program was for Masters in Social Work where I specialized in interpersonal practice.
I started my career post Masters as a home-based clinical therapist in Detroit. I provided intensive, community based individual and family counseling. I participated in a yearlong training cohort in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to deliver trauma informed systems of care approach to clients I worked with.
I became a school social worker serving students ranging from preschool through the twelfth grade. I conducted evaluations to determine eligibility for special education services using a variety of different assessments and instruments for preschool through high school aged students. I then used the results to collaborate with school staff and families for Individualized Education Plans, 504 Plans, Behavior Intervention Plans, and Positive Reward Systems. I also participated in a yearlong, statewide Autism training series for specialized training in working with students who have autism, working with parents and families who have a child with autism and to be able to intervene clinically with those who have autism both at home and at school.
For the past seven years I have focused on individual, family and couples counseling in the private practice setting. Specialties include anxiety and depression, life transitions, couples and relationship counseling and trauma/grief and loss. I provide those I work with life tools and effective strategies to cope with presenting issues to improve quality of life, relationships and overall well being.
